A Clinical Study of Brain Tumors

Abstract
The author analysed 104 patients with intracranial tumors which were verified by operation during the past 7 years. Epidemiological factors were analysed in general. These tumors were classified according to modified WHO classification. The
tumors
in
pediatric age group were composed of 12.55 of all intracranial tumors. The most common brain tumor was glioma followed by meningioma, pituitary adenoma and craniopharyngioma. Astrocytomas occupied 22.2% intracranial tumors and as a single entity,
these
were the highest incidence. Headache and vomiting were the most common presenting symptoms and papilledema was the most common sign. Intracranial tumors occured more frequently in supratentorial region. The most frequent location was cerebral
hemisphere
followed by sellar and parasellar region, 4th ventricle. At admission, the majority of the patients scored higher than Karnofsky Performance Scale 70 Mortality rate of operated tumor patients was 6.7%.
